<h2>Matt Rains’ Montana roots run deep.</h2>His great, great grandmother settled in Ennis 160 years ago and today Matt and his wife Whitney continue the family legacy on the Birdtail Ranch. Farmers and ranchers are being squeezed by harmful trade policies, healthcare costs keep climbing, access to our public lands is under threat, and veterans still aren’t receiving the care they’ve earned. MISSOULA, MT - Today, Matt Rains announced his campaign for Montana’s First Congressional District seat. Rains, a Democrat, is a fourth-generation Montana rancher, U.S. Army Veteran, and former Chief of Staff for the Montana Farmers Union. “I am running for Congress because Montanans deserve better,” said Rains. “Like my neighbors and friends, I see and feel the cost of everything going up in Montana – and Ryan Zinke is making it worse by voting to support the tariffs and cutting Medicaid to drive up our health care costs. “When I see a problem, I run towards it to find a solution: when our country was at war, I served our country. Abroad, I exposed genocide as a photojournalist. And when ranchers were getting squeezed by the big four packers, I led the project to build a meat-processing co-op so Montana ranchers get a fair price for their beef.” Matt graduated from Simms High School, attended West Point, and served as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot and officer in Iraq and South Korea. MISSOULA, MT - As Republicans face criticism over Donald Trump’s plan to import Argentinian beef at the expense of American farmers, Montana ranchers are lining up behind Matt Rains in his campaign for Montana’s first congressional district.&nbsp; “I am proud to earn the support of hardworking ranchers and farmers who are the backbone of Montana,” Rains said. “As reckless tariffs drive up costs for everyone, and this Administration puts Argentina before Americans, this isn’t a partisan issue—it’s about fighting for our way of life. Ryan Zinke is MIA.” Rains, who announced his decision to run yesterday, is a fourth-generation Montana rancher and former Chief of Staff at the Montana Farmers Union.
