Standing Up For Our Ranchers And Farmers

Ranching and farming aren’t just industries in Montana, they are a way of life. When our producers succeed our entire state succeeds. But today, family farms and ranches are under pressure from rising costs, unfair trade policies, market consolidation and a system that too often puts big corporations above local producers. The people who feed this country deserve a fair shot, not to be squeezed by corporate monopolies or one-size-fits-all policies from Washington.

Ending Trump’s Tariffs

We need to end the harmful tariffs that have cut off export markets and triggered retaliation against farmers in Montana and across the country. Montana producers depend on access to global markets, and I will push for trade policies that open doors not close them while holding trading partners accountable. We have a lot of work ahead of us to rebuild markets the knee-jerk tariffs destroyed in Montana.

Fighting For Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (MCOOL)

Consumers need to clearly see where their beef and agricultural products come from. This levels the playing field for Montana ranchers, allowing them to compete based on the quality and reputation of American-grown products. I’ve fought to help local ranchers sell their own livestock with USDA certification. In Congress, I’ll make sure our ranchers, who raise the best beef in the world, get the recognition they deserve. No more diluting our products with out of country boxed beef.

Supporting The PRIME Act

I will support the PRIME Act to expand local meat processing by allowing the sale of state-inspected meat across state lines and directly to consumers. This would give small producers more flexibility, reduce bottlenecks, and keep more profits in local communities.

Backing Local and Regional Meatpacking Alternatives

Ranchers are being held hostage by the “Big Four” processors that dominate the market. I will build on my work at Farmer’s union and support competition, enforce antitrust laws, and invest in independent processing infrastructure to restore fair pricing power to producers.

Fixing The Broken Crop Insurance Subsidy System

We need to fix the broken crop insurance subsidy system so it works for family farms, not just the largest operations. I will push to ensure subsidies are targeted, transparent and responsive to the real risks Montana producers face, including drought and extreme weather.

Protecting The Right To Repair

I will protect the right to repair so farmers and ranchers can fix their own equipment without being forced to rely on expensive, manufacturer-controlled service agreements. This will reduce downtime during critical seasons and lower operating costs.
